I thought I would share this article that was featured in Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI)  Blog. It tells the story of what the Lisle CVB offers the meeting planner.

Robin Friday, Director of Sales, Lisle (Chicago Area) Convention & Visitors Bureau shares her perspective about her destination and the value found in using a CVB, and Destination Marketing Association International’s (DMAI’s) Terri Roberts takes note.

Robin is comfortable in her skin and comfortable with what her destination is and is not!  But the Lisle CVB does not rest on its laurels!  They pride themselves in authentically being the best at what they do and the services they provide, with their aim to make you, the planner, successful!   So, if you are interested in taking a meeting to the Chicago area, you might want to look a bit off the beaten path for an affordable alternative.

TERRI:  Tell me a little about yourself and your background in the CVB industry?

ROBIN:  I have been in the industry over 25 years.  Almost my entire career has been spent on the hotel side with Hyatt International as, Director of Sales, Front Office, Convention Services, and Banquets.  I recently came to the Lisle CVB about two years ago.

TERRI:  What’s the best thing about your job?

ROBIN:  I love the more relaxed pace at the CVB. It allows so much more quality time with the customer. On the hotel side you book it and someone else cooks it, so you often don’t get that extra time to engage with the customer.

TERRI:  What makes Lisle a great meeting destination?

ROBIN:  We are in the “middle of everywhere” in the Chicago Area. You can stay in Lisle and be in the city in 25 minutes by Metra. We sit midway between both Airports O’Hare and Midway.  We have three major branded hotels, Hyatt, Hilton and Sheraton, and best of all we are an affordable alternative to Chicago where the parking is FREE!

TERRI:  What is the one thing planners are always surprised to learn about Lisle?

ROBIN:  Meeting planners often comment on how convenient our location is and all we have to offer around us, such as a restaurant row with likes of Mortons, Maggianos, Coopers Hawk, White Chocolate Grill, etc., and downtown Naperville with both entertainment and shopping. An added plus is that transportation to Naperville is a mere $7.00 from Lisle! Our hotels shuttles may be of service to you as well.

TERRI:  How do you see the value you provide to planners as a CVB?

ROBIN:  Saving valuable time is, without a doubt, the biggest value we can provide to planners. One call and you can accomplish much of what would take you days to obtain on your own.

TERRI:  What do you think are the advantages to reaching out to a CVB first when planning a meeting?

ROBIN:  CVBs are a one stop shop when searching a meeting destination. We compile all proposals, put them in a comparison chart if you prefer, and deliver to you…with all the information about the community and visitor guides, so you can get a true prospective of what we offer and make an educated and informed decision. Our job is to make the planner successful and to make the search easier!

TERRI:  What size/type of meetings best fit in your destination?

ROBIN: Our sweet spot would be meetings between 50-500 people.  We are a great fit for that size group, and we take pride in providing the same level of service to groups of all sizes.

TERRI:  Why are your services free?

ROBIN:  Our services are funded by our hotels occupancy tax dollars and therefore provided free to planners by those vested in growing the meetings market. We offer an array of services from welcome bags including our visitor guide, customized name badges, tent card to registration assistance. We are here to make your job easier!

TERRI:  What motivates you to provide the excellent service you are known for?

ROBIN:  It’s my reputation- without it, in this business or any other for that matter, you have nothing.

TERRI:  What would you like all planners to know about Lisle and the Lisle CVB?

ROBIN:  We are small and powerful. Customer service is something on which we pride ourselves. You will not leave disappointed. We don’t try to be something we are not; we just try to be the best at what we are!
